Easy knitted cap pattern

I have been knitting over the holidays. A little, some light knitting that I don’t have to think to hard about. Looks like I’ve got a red theme going…

Going to knit another pair for a girlfriend in the hospital.

It has been cloudy and cold here, a little snow falling. So we have been watching some movies. I knitted an easy cap while watching Star Trek, (picked out by Steve) and Julie & Julia.  (for me).  This allows for a lot of knitting and spinning.

Here is the pattern (see hat above)

Easy Knitted Cap

I used approx. 200 yds of worsted wt 100% wool Galway in dark red

US 4 circular knitting needles or size to gauge(i use the magic loop method, see here)

Gauge = 17 sts and 24 rows, 4 x 4 swatch

Cast on 76 stitches, be careful not to twist when joining the circle.

Knit 2, purl 2 every row for 2 1/2 inches.

Now starting knitting all around until 7-9 inches, about to the top of your head.

Decrease using:

Mark beginning of round

row 1  knit 2, ktog, around (you should be able to have 19 decreases per row)

row 2  knit all around,

row 3 knit 1, ktog around

row 4 knit all around

row 5 ktog all around, (8 stitches left)

take the 8 remaining stitches and cut yarn leaving a long tail, draw these up with a needle, stitch through several times and cut.

Now your ready to go out and enjoy the winter

    I saw Star Trek at the campus while waiting for my son. I couldn't see all of it because it was in the commons and apparently a club decided to have a meeting (a loud meeting) during the movie so I look forward to seeing it in the privacy of my own home.

    I love the slipper pattern but I adjust it by picking up stitches around the foot opening and knit a ribbed cuff on it because I hate having my ankles exposed.

    The hat pattern looks like a keeper. Thanks.

Review of a Kick Spindles Or Mother Marion to spin

When I made the decision to buy a Kick spindle I could find very little info on it, anywhere. Below is what I gathered, bought and my experience with mine. I could only find two being marketed, since I purchased mine I have found a third. Below is my views on the Kick spindle I purchased (Little Meggie from Heavenly Handspinning), and some info on all of the other Kick Spindles that I could locate. Links and costs are included. Hills and Valleys Cowl/Hood (free pattern)

I was searching for the perfect cowl that I had in my mind to knit. Trawling on Ravelry, I wanted one, just the right size around, only once around my neck and not too tight, loose enough to pull up around my face and tall enough to get it around my ears during a windy dog walk, but able to squish it down into my collar of my coat and not be too thick and bulky. About a third of the way into the pattern I decided to make it long enough to pull up as a hood also.  I finally just un-vented this one, as Elizabeth Zimmerman would say. Add caption This is a simple stitch textured cowl/hood (you decide the length). Suitable for beginning knitters. Purl ridges make the cowl easy to scrunchy down or pull up. You can wear the ribbed end on top if you are wearing it as a cowl to make it snuggie around your neck or, wear the purl ridges on top if you are pulling it up as a hood.
