I begin to panic and get organized, or is it the other way around?

Spring is here, along with the rain, I have begun my traditional spring cleaning/organization quest. In addition to that, I’m working on a baby and a wedding present. Both handmade. Can’t blog about those right now. So I’ll have to be happy with sharing my eternal hope that I can become the organized person with a simplified life and house. Always looking for a successful system to try, the few things that I have kept from various organizational/shows/books etc.…. When my home is not organized, neither is my life, the most chaos I have, the more I need to get organized. 1-OK, not in the mood, just call up a Hoarders episode, 5 min in top, I started tossing things. This is one of the scariest shows I have ever seen. (it also makes anyone feel tremendously in control of things, no matter how messy your house it) 2)-Use the 3 box/bag system, toss, donate and put away. I also like the “can’t get rid of it yet box”, have something you know you need to get rid of my can’t, stick it in

Decluttering, working towards simplicity

I have been on a major decluttering streak. I have pitched, donated and reorganized, but I’m not done yet. I come from a mother who was extremely neat and orderly, and a grandmother that teetered near hoarding. So I live in fear of, well, maybe both extremes. Clutter seems to show up, mysteriously in my house.  I have tried over the years to beat it back. Below are the tips that helped me most. 1. Find a system. I tried for years to organize myself, it wasn’t until I studied naturally organized people that I realized that, yes I need a “constant” system. Not one week every three months to work non stop to make everything perfect again. Only to ignore it for another three months. (my favorite is a crazy lady, the flylady , also good are simplemom.net ) Find something that works for you, and then yes, you have to use it. 2. Baby steps Even if you only have 5 minutes, pick a shelf, drawer, even a portion of a counter. I have a rule, if I’m talking on the phone, I’m declutte

Organize and simplify

I have learned after going though enough clutter, the more I go through the more I can get rid of. I have donated, 4 truck loads of stuff, Oh the unlucky people that find the UFO's that I have recently amputated. The books I checked out are helpful. I did learn that Christopher Lowell is helpful, I thought his would be the most fu-fu. But it turns out he must be a clutterholic, be still my heart. I started reading his book with new zest. The 1000 best organizing tips, is just that, 1000, tips thrown at you willy, nilly, not much help. I feel like 50 different people are yelling tips at me, with no relation to where I am. Uncluttering your space has actually been helpful, Ann T. Sullivan, takes you by the hand and leads you through the process of purging. I guess we have already binged, since we are reading this book. I did have a friend give me Sink Reflections by Marla Cilly , this is an interesting book, accompanied by a Yahoo group , and a website, they call themselves Flybabie
