Socks and more socks, two at a time!

I had dyed this yarn using Kool Aid and had so much fun it lead to a Kool Aid explosion in my kitchen. Lots of Kool Aid, lots of yarn, fun and color. See this post for the yarny back-story. So then I began looking for a pattern that would suit my needs. I settled on The Sailor’s Delight Socks (rav link)  from 2 at a Time Socks by Melissa Morgan-Oakes . I decided to use the dark plum for the cuffs, toe and heel. and the variegated for the rest of the sock (I hope I have enough) Here I have started the heel. This will be the 2nd pair of socks that I have knitted with Melissa’s 2 at a time technique. The first attempt was rocky, but this one is going smoothly. Heel turned and…. Gusset done, now all I have to finish is the foot and toe. Almost there…. All done, pre blocking. I do like knitting two socks at a time. Pros… -use every bit of yarn -if you alter a pattern, and don’t write it down (like me, thinking “I will remember that” no worries, you have already done

Lovin the Craft

I recently bought the book Stephanie Pearl-McPhee Casts Off: The Yarn Harlot's Guide to the Land of Knitting . It is a great book. The part that really got my attention was when she was talking about a product knitter vs a process knitter. I had never thought about this before. Over the years, I have done all kinds of needle work, sewing, crochet, rug hooking, weaving, etc... I have enjoyed all of it, but wondered how I could spend hours and hours, weeks, months even and then when I was done. Taaa Daaa, toss the item aside after admiring it. This always worried me a little bit, until I read her book. Then I realized, "I am a process knitter (or fill in craft of your choice)". This is why I give it away, sell at craft fairs, and Etsy. After I'm done most of it doesn't interest me much. Of course there are a few pieces that I do keep and wear, but they are the basic, timeless pieces. Traditional quilt patterns, Cardigans, scarves, etc... I think the one

Sock knitting on circular needles

I love to knit socks, so satisfying to knit. Compact to travel and stuff in a purse to go with me anywhere. Wonderful to wear! Great for a gift, even people who have never had hand knitted socks will go "ahhh..." when wearing them. So when my LYS offered a class to teach knitting two socks at the same time on circular needles I immediately signed up for it. It used the often heard of Socks Soar on Two Circular Needles : a Manual of Elegant Knitting Techniques and Patterns by Cat Bordi. I was so excited. I dutifully bought all of my needed items!! Ohhhh a chance to buy more sock yarn. (I have some at home, but when signing up for a class, I get 20% off whatever I buy) So of course I had to pick out some new sock yarn!!! Sockotta, The Plymouth Italian Collection, Cotton/wool blend, Color 605 a blue/green/gold, blend. I was ready!! Well life happened and I missed the class. The yarn, book and needles are still untouched. But then I discovered this crazy book on a yahoo yarn gro
