Here I am doing some trail knitting!

Waking up after a long day of hiking, with some coffee and knitting.

Some time ago I learned that Fibonacci can be applied to knitting. If you are not familiar with Fibonacci, he was a mathematician from the middle ages. He figured out the relationship of proportions, now known as the golden ratio (or number), Fibonacci sequence or 1.618 or Phi. This sequence is seen in practically everything. I’ll link to several articles if you wish to learn more. From reproducing animals, to sea shells and galaxies, the human form and sunflowers. (Mona Lisa, Parthenon, and the pyramids of Egypt, just to name a few). This ratio is present in many, many more surprising things. The first time I used this was in my felted bag. I’m always looking for a interesting pattern, especially free ones! Here are five free patterns I’m seriously looking to knit up….. 1- The Giant Knit Cowl , I have this super bulky yarn I bought in a sale that is an odd color, I’ve never know what to do with it. Do you knit during every opportunity? Or are you more of a TV/movie knitter? Maybe while commuting to work and back, or a lunch time knitter. Most knitters will knit at any opportunity. I love to knit at lunch, it gives me a break during the stressful day to get some click-click-click in. Even if I can only knit one row in a little meditative break helps. Of course I love to knit during a movie. We don’t have cable anymore, so I can put on Netflix and go through several episodes of a show and keep knitting. I also like to listen to my iPod, whether it is music, audio book or a podcast, like TV, I need some simple knitting or I’ll be frogging before I know it.. Likewise for sporting events! Woops! Frog all of the way back to where I started, *grin* If knitting while drinking, I’ve experienced several things, either, I don’t drink my drink, due to being so engrossed in my knitting, and then it is warm and watery. Working crazy hours can make sleep even harder to get than normal. Upon the recommendation of a co-worker I decided to try a sleep mask. (I totally thought I was just throwing my money away, but thought, what the heck!! I need sleep!) So I bought an inexpensive one from a big box store. OMG!! I was transformed into a happy sleepy girl. This really made a difference for me. I now have Custom Knits and Custom Knits 2 by Wendy Bernard. I couldn’t wait to dive into her newer book, and did, but then had to get the first one off of my bookshelf and take another look at it. One of my favorite ideas of hers is her “Reality Checklist”, a list of things you should consider before embarking on a knitting project. I have concluded that we all have a reality checklist in our minds, but never considered putting it in writing to formally consider before a project. This is a great idea, especially for myself, when the yarn or pattern is calling to me. I throw caution to the wind and don’t ask my self some of the basic questions and later on will regret it. My Reality checklist: to be consulted before any knitting project, *snort* (to try and avoid some knitting mishaps before they occur).
