Free Crochet Penguin Pattern











I started making a pair of penguins for my great niece and nephew.
So far it has been really fun. Of course they live about 5 hours away from me and I am planning on mailing them.
Well I always say, "if it is a handmade gift, you have a grace period to get it done and deliver it" now sometimes this "grace period" is quite a bit longer than other times. I have invoked it for up to a year once. Hopefully this time will be only several days. After all it is fun to get gifts after Christmas also. Right?
I did alter the beak sightly, I made 2 rows of sc after the initial increases, I thought the picture looked a little "Mr. Magooish"
I am hoping to get the pair of these done fairly quickly and am shopping for a penguin book to go with it, for them, after all if I'm late after all.....

Since I am not an expert crocheter at all, and usually knit, I did loosly interpret these directions, I like the knitting way of increase 7 stiches over the course of the next 2 rows.

    Hi! I hope your niece and nephew loved their penguins! I Just wanted to let you know that I made this penguin for my daughter (who is 18 and LOVES all things penguin!) and she absolutely flipped over it! It was really easy and fast to crochet, and came out almost exactly like the picture. It was bigger than I thought it was going to be. I did make a couple of alterations myself, I gave him a little tuft of orange,yellow, and red hair on top of his head to make him look more like a rock hopper penguin. I also tacked his nose down underneath so it sat flatter on his face. I thought it gave him a little more character and a little less as you put it "Mr. Magooish". I would post a photo, but my daughter currently has it with her at college. I'm planning on making her another one in her school colors, so maybe I'll take a photo of that one and post it.

Aran Shrug, Bridesmaid Wrap, Baby Bunting Pattern free

Here is the start of my "Bridesmaid wrap" from " Wedding Knits " by Suss Cousins. I am making it out of heavier yarn, From Handpainted yarns I love the yarn it is so soft and the colors are beautiful. The wrap is made in mohair in the book. I plan on making it a shorter wrap, due to the heavier yarn. I hope it turns out OK . If you check out the book link, there is photo of it. If you want a free Bridesmaid wrap pattern this is a lovely one from Knitty! I made this baby bunting, on the spur of the moment, just playing around. I used one skein of red heart yarn, and a small amount of the fun fur yarn in a coordinating color. Cast on 80 stitches at 4 sts /inch. Knit in the round, until 24 inches long. If you would rather knit flat, knit even rows, purl odd rows. Add Fun fur yarn, or other novelty yarn for the last 10 rows. Bind off, using a very loose bind off. I like to use the Elizabeth Zimmerman method of the Sewn Bind off

Knitted Flat Slouchy Hat Pattern

I’m still tweaking my flat slouchy hat pattern. Here is the next in the series. This is a slouchy hat pattern, knitted flat. It is easy for a beginning knitter! Super slouchy hat, pattern below…. I originally started making this pattern when I didn’t have access to my circular needles. It was fast and fun. With cuff turned up (below) Super Slouchy Knitted Flat Hat Pattern (bulky yarn) Pattern: Flat Slouchy Hat (SuperBulky Yarn) Slouchy hat knitted flat and sewn together, suitable for beginning knitter Yarn Used: Super Bulky Lion Brand Hometown USA, I used 1 and a third skeins which is about 110-120 yds of  super bulky yarn Gauge: 13 stitches x 9 rows, 4x4 inches Needles: US 13 or size to get gauge Cast On: 42 Stitches Ribbing: Row 1: K1, P1, repeat to end Row 2: Repeat row 1 until, your ribbing is as long as you desire, mine is approx. 5 inches long.
